I like this idea of pausing for moments of silence at certain points of the day today. I think that this should be recognized as a holiday, but that everyone should continue what they would do normally during the course of their day and simply pause for those four moments. It seems far more appropriate than having a day off for picnics and beer.

As for memorials, I think there should be one at WTC, but they should take a look at the Vietnam Memorial in D.C.. Not the statues, which are prolific and just too much, but the wall itself, with the names of the dead listed by year. I think they should have the names of the WTC dead, and the names of those on the flights, listed by tower and floor, or by flight, where they were from and their ages. Maybe have the tower or flight as the header for the section, then name, floor (if appropriate), home, age.

The impact of walking by that wall in D.C. when I was seven years old and looking at all of the names of the people who died in that war was profound. It was the best way to illustrate the extent of the loss. I think this would be the most appropriate way to illustrate what New York, the country and the world suffered to those kids in the future who did not live through what happened on September 11, 2001.
