The Writer's Almanac is one of my favorite things on the radio. It never takes very long, maybe about ten minutes, but in that time, the quiet, calm, comforting voice of Garrison Keillor tells of a few writers, poets, publishers born on that particular day, with a short biography for each, as well as any literary events of historical import which may have happened way back when, then recites a poem or two, different each day. It's folksy, highly literate and educational in the best sense of all three. I'm always happy when I manage to catch it on NPR in the morning (or evening, depending upon the local station's programming schedule).
